Cancer charity seeks moms for contest
Sunday January 23, 2011 10:38 AM By Eileen Holliday
Moms Who Kick, a charitable organization that raises money and awareness for breast cancer research, is seeking a few good moms. Joanne Hutchins, one of the group’s founders, said they are looking for mothers over the age of 18 who live in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut for its Model Mom Contest for its 2012 calender. Up to 10 winners may be selected (five in the 40 and older category, and five in the 40 and under category). Each winner will receive a professional photo shoot from Brenner Photo Productions in Plainview and appear in the 2012 calendar.
“It’s a project near and dear to my heart,” said Hutchins, of Bayville. “My mom is a survivor and my aunt who lives in New Zealand is a survivor. … It’s proven through exercise that certain cancers can be prevented.” Hutchins said the winners should be selected by mid-April and photo shoots could start by the end of April. The cost of entry is $25. The deadline for applications is March 31.
Visit MomsWhoKick.com for complete details and official rules.
In 2009, Moms Who Kick started doing the calenders that feature moms exercising. The calenders sell for $10 and can be ordered on the website. Hutchins said since the group’s inception in 2008, it has raised over $30,000 for the American Cancer Society.
All proceeds collected in association with the Model Moms Contest will benefit The Katz Institute for Women’s Health and Katz Women’s Hospitals and breast cancer research.
